Passed peacefully away on April 18, 2012, at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion, while surrounded by his loving wife & family, in his 87th year, Leo Corcoran, a proud World War II Veteran of the 59th Newfoundland Field Regiment who served in England, Holland and Germany. Predeceased by his parents Michael and Annie Corcoran and his brothers: Ben, Cyril and Fred. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories of his great sense of humour and his strong work ethic: Anita (Delurey), his devoted wife of 60 years; four sons: Brian (Juanita), Tony (Trudy), Michael (Paula), Leo (Barb); nine daughters: Joyce (Kevin Williams), Leona (Wayne Harvey), Isabelle, Madonna (Gary Barron), Gwen (Dave Dinn), Mary (Dave Clarke), Laura (Felicien Katigema), Clara (Tim Hagerty), Anne (Valentine Corcoran); 34 precious grandchildren: Laurie, Scott, Anita, Charmaine, Selena, Brian, Tiona, Blaize, Keith, Dale, Pamela, Adam, Lacey, Eric, Travis, Ashley, Carson, Cody, Lucas, Tyler, Leanna, Desmond, Sheena, Kyle, Leah, Eden, Chantal, Cassie, Bret, Alicia, Megan, Courtney, Emily, Lisa; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Denis (Lise), Eugene (Theresa); three sisters: Bridget (Peter Corcoran), Gladys (Garrett Hickey), Clara (Charlie Stevens) and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Leo has been a respected member of the Community of Riverhead, St. Mary's Bay. He was a Past President and Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62, Riverhead. No flowers by request (due to allergies). Donations gratefully accepted for the "Jim Shields Memorial Garden" at the Caribou Memorial Veterans' Pavilion, 90 Forest Rd., St. John's, NL A1A 0C4. Leo's family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the staff of the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion for the exceptional care and attention he received during his four year stay. Words can never express our family's appreciation for the respect and dignity shown for him. We will never forget your kindness. Resting at Gibbons' Funeral Home, St. Mary's, on Saturday, April 21 & Sunday April 22, from 2-4 p.m.; 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, April 23, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Church, St. Mary's.
