With deep sadness the family announces the death of Clinton Lloyd Pierce at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Veterans Unit, Lunenburg, N.S., his home for the past year. His daughter, Cheryl Atkinson, was at his side. Clinton was born at East Sable River, the only son of Spencer and Harriett (Lloyd) Pierce. He is survived by his loving wife, Vera (Thorburne) Pierce; sons Graham (Joanne), Tony (Cathie), daughter, Cheryl (Timothy) Atkinson; daughter-in-law, Debbie Pierce and step-daughter Sylvia White (Gary). He was the proud grandpa of Terri Davey (Kevin), Sarah Atkinson (Adam), Matthew Atkinson (Melanie), Elysia, Erin, Jeffrey, Nicole, Benjamin and Craig Pierce and great grandchildren Brett Pierce, Julia and Maia Davey. Clinton was predeceased by his eldest son, Lloyd, as well as his parents and sisters, Mary Swansburg, Elsie Pierce and Ruth (Churchill) Trefry. His grandson, David White, great grandson, Tyler Davey and niece, Joyce Swansburg also predeceased him. He is survived by nephews Russel and Theodore Swansburg, Winston Churchill and niece Christina Parker, as well as many cousins -all will miss him. Clinton was a World War II Veteran and long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Lockeport. Raised a Master Mason in Taylor Lodge, #62, on March 24, 1942, spanning a time of 70 years, he was Past Master of his Lodge and held the office of Grand Steward in the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia. After the war he returned to East Sable River to work with his parents at their general Store, Post office and rural mail delivery service. In the early 1960’s he and Vera moved their family to Lockeport where he had a men’s wear shop and later an insurance agency. He enjoyed cottage life at Welchtown Lake, where family and friends were always welcome, motor home camping trips, and he participated in many events and projects in Lockeport. In 2010 Clinton and Vera moved to Bridgewater N.S., beginning another chapter in their lives. Special thanks to his home care team and the caring staff at the Veterans Unit. A Masonic and Legion service was held at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, prior to visitation on Saturday. A funeral service was held on Sunday, April 22 at St. Andrews United Church, Hall Street, Lockeport. After the service a celebration of Clinton’s life was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Lockeport. Interment will follow at the East Sable River Community Cemetery.
