William Percy Line was born July 20, 1916, in Gull Lake, SK to Alfred and Hannah Line. He was the oldest sibling in a family of 7 children. He took his schooling at a country school named Dama about 13 miles north of Gull Lake, close to the family farm. Percy was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Sarah Jane (Sally) in 2005; his mother and father; four brothers, Floyd, Herb, Roy and Howard; one sister, May; and by sons-in-law, Kerry Lockhart and Lawrence Scheer. He is survived by his five children, Donna Scheer, of Sonningdale, Sharon Lockhart, of Mortlach, Renald (Pearl) Line, of Inwood MB, Bryan (Ardie) Line, of Gull Lake and Dale (Marvin) Auseth of Success; 17 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and by his youngest brother, Gordon, of Medicine Hat, AB. After Percy left school he worked on the family farm for many years, working with horses and horse-drawn machinery and later with tractors. In 1944, Percy married Sarah Jane Brown of Verlo SK. From 1945 to 1955, they had 5 children, while working in different employments - farming, CP Rail and draying in Gull Lake. About 1958, Percy and family returned to the family farm and farmed and raised sheep until 1961, when the farm was sold. From there, Percy and family moved to the Keyville District northwest of Tompkins, renting some land and continuing with farming, sheep and a few cows. In 1965, Percy and Sally and 3 of the children moved to Narcisse, MB, buying a piece of land and again raising sheep. In 1970, they returned to Saskatchewan when the provincial government advertised for a Sheep Pasture Manager. Percy and Sally managed the sheep pasture, looking after some 5000 animals for 12 years until his retirement in 1981, whereupon they retired to Success for the next 20 years. After Sally’s death in 2005, Percy lived at the Swift Current Care Centre for his remaining years, until he passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the age of 95. Percy was very family oriented, he loved his family and his grandkids were his pride and joy. Next to his family he loved his cats and dogs. He had great compassion for all God’s creatures, great and small. Percy was a very quite, soft spoken person, known for his hospitality to everyone who visited. He was a very fair and sharing person all of his life. He took his responsibilities as a husband, father and grandfather very seriously and will be sadly missed by all who were privileged to know him. The Funeral Service was held on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at 1:00 pm from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Bill Burgess officiating. The Internment was held at the Verlo Cemetery with the following Grandsons serving as pallbearers, Rocky Sheer, Troy Sheer, Tim Wolfe, Cassidy Line, Dwayne Line, Slade Line, Chad Line, Michael Line and Dustin Auseth. In memory of Percy Line, donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home.
