GREEN, FREDERICK M. – The family announces the death of Frederick Murray Green which occurred on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Carleton-Kirk Lodge following a lengthy period of declining health. Born on October 20, 1923 in West Saint John NB, where he resided all his life, Fred was the fifth son of the late Thomas H. and Blanche L. (Skinner) Green. He attended New Albert School and Saint John High School, and in 1941 began employment as a trainman with the Canadian Pacific Railway. He retired as conductor in 1983. Predeceased on February 17, 2000 by Constance (Parks), his wife of 55 years, he is survived by two daughters, Janis (Jan) Thompson and her husband Brian of Fredericton NB and Linda (Lindy) McCullough and her husband Robert of Cape Coral, Florida, and much beloved grandchildren, Brian and Susan Thompson, both of Fredericton. He is also survived by three sisters, Bertha Jones and Ramona (husband James) Dow of Saint John West and Betty Shonaman of Mississauga ON, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by five brothers and their spouses, Harold (Agnes), Richard (Cecilia), Hartley (Thelma), Merlin (Bertha), Lincoln (Shirley); four sisters and their spouses, Eva (Donald) Marshall, Doris (Norman) Clements, Edith (John) Middleton, Elva (Douglas) Stephen; and brothers-in-law Durell Jones and Bruce Shonaman. Fred enjoyed many years of fishing and hunting and regularly attended harness racing at “the Track”. He was an avid reader of history books and looked forward to his morning newspaper. He was a member of the Carleton Union Lodge No. 8, F. & A.M., Saint John Shrine Club, and Luxor Shriners of NB Railway Unit.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 29 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West. The funeral service will take place on Monday, April 30 at 2:30pm at St. George’s Anglican Church, 100 Watson Street, Saint John West, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Internment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Side Food Bank, St. George’s Anglican Church, Carleton-Kirk Lodge or a charity of choice.
