Edith Rebecca Palethorpe

Edith Rebecca Palethorpe, 92, of Saltsprings and formerly of Truro, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Carrie (Hiltz) Tibbitts. Edith worked in the Credit Department for Zellers, Truro. She also ran the Needle Point Shop for Dorothy Legge in Truro. She enjoyed going on trips, was an avid card player. She was a former member of the U.C.W. of Brunswick Street United Church, Truro. Edith enjoyed quilting and made many quilts for her family. When she was younger, she enjoyed going on motorcycle trips with her husband Jim, and was a former member of the Gold Wing Road Riders, Truro Chapter. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and will be missed by all.
She is survived by a son Walter of Shortt’s Lake; daughter Mrs. Thelma MacDonald of Saltsprings; grandchildren, Catherine Rose, Julie Anne, Jeannie, Jamie, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Sophia, London, Paige, Reily, Kyle, Carrie, Rebecca, Jordyn, Rachel, Benjamin, Emily.
She was predeceased by her husband James Douglas Haig Palethorpe; great-grandson James; brothers Harold Tibbetts and Laurie Tibbitts.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 Monday, April 30th and funeral service 1:30 pm Tuesday, May 1st, in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, Truro, 55 Young Street, Truro. Rev. Peter Armstrong will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Watson Cemetery, Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edith’s memory may be made to the Pictou County SPCA or to the Terry Fox Foundation.
