It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Robert Hayward Kipping on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Taigh na Mara. Formerly of 14 Athlone St., he was the son of the late Jack and Freda (King) Kipping.
A veteran of the Second World War, Bob served with the Cape Breton Highlanders 1940-46, in Canada, Britain, Italy and North West Europe. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion Nova Scotia Highlanders (Cape Breton) for 20 years, retiring in 1971 as C.O. A founding member of the Cape Breton Highlanders Association and also a member of John Bernard Croak Branch 003 Royal Canadian Legion. Bob was an employee of Canada Post retiring in 1986, after 36 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Tamar Florence MacIntyre; daughter, Nancy (Melvin McLean); son, Garth (Kilby); granddaughter, Christa; great-grandson, Jeremy, great-granddaughter, Haley, brothers, Eric, Halifax, Tom, Oshawa, Fred, Riverview, David, Prince George, B.C.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandson Robert.
At his request cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 8, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating.
