Rowan Archibald Profitt - 81, of Kentville, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, following a lengthy illness. Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, he was the son of the late William and Hazel (MacMurdo) Profitt. He began his career with Canada Packers in 1947, retiring as Sales Manager in 1992 from canard Poultry Division and was a member of the Canada Packers Quarter Century Club. He won the Donald G. LeBlanc trophy for outstanding new member of the Halifax Jaycees. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed golfing and curling and was an active member of the Glooscap Curling Club. Rowan was an avid horse racing fan and a competitive card player. He was also a member of the Kings County Commercial Travellers Club, Kentville. He is survived by a daughter, Pamela J. Profitt, British Columbia; a son, Steven D. Profitt, Florida; two grandchildren, Connor and Cerys Profitt, Florida; an 87-year old sister, Georgie (Walter) Simmons, Summerside; a 90-year old brother, Wendell, Charlottetown; nieces and nephews in Prince Edward Island and British Columbia; special friends, Hector and Joan Pottie, Kentville. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Muriel MacLellan; a sister-in-law, Dorothy; an infant brother, David. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012, Reverend Tim Archibald officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation - Hospice. The Profitt family extend a sincere thank-you to the caring staff on Medical A and B and the ICU of the Valley Regional Hospital, specifically Dr. Daniel Woo, Dr. Julia Merryweather and Dr. Ann Gordon for all their efforts in making Rowan comfortable.
