NEW GLASGOW – Geraldine “Gerry” Ross, 76, New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Peasbrook, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late James Valentine and Lillian Mae (Hensbee) Murphy.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. She had been employed as a cook for many years. Gerry was a Past President of the 55 Plus Club, New Glasgow, and former Secretary and Treasurer of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 29, Trenton. She had been a volunteer with the Aberdeen Hospital Gift Shop and the seniors outreach program at Valley View Villa, Riverton. Gerry was an avid Blue Jays and Maple Leafs fan. She enjoyed playing cards, darts and attending the “Trenton Tim’s club” twice a day. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who cherished the Friday family night gatherings.
Surviving are her husband, John David Morrison; daughters: Patricia “Tish” (Doug) Perrin, New Glasgow; Gwen (Ken) Savage, MacLellan’s Brook; Kathy (Everett) Baker, New Glasgow; Donna (Ronnie) Conway, Plymouth; sons: Jim (Susan) Bell, Little Harbour; Bernie (Ann) Ross, French River; Scott (Margie) Ross, New Glasgow; Donnie (Janice) Ross, Lower Sackville; sister, Judith Chadwick, Riverview, N.B.; brothers: Burton Murphy, Fraser’s Mountain; Wayne (Cathy) Murphy, Comox, B.C.; Carl (Aileen) Murphy, Ontario; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Ernest Bernard “Jack” Ross; sisters: Bessie, Vivian, Greta and Marilyn; brothers, Cantley and Herman.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Gerry’s memory to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, Canadian Diabetes Association or Canadian Cancer Society.
