The death of David Garfield Holmes - 68 years - occurred on Friday, May 11, 2012 after a long battle with cancer, his wife Betty by his side. He waited till his birthday to leave us as his daughter Debbie had done before him.
He was son of Hazel (Dwyer) Holmes-Christie of St. Andrews, NB, and James Walter McNally (deceased) of Oshawa, ON. Survived by his mother, Hazel (Dwyer)Christie of Stratford, Conn.; Betty (Mac Neill) Holmes his wife of 18 years; and sons Gary (Barbara) Holmes of Charlottetown and Gregory (Jennifer MacDonald) Holmes of Charlottetown; step-son Troy (Jayeon Baik) MacNeill of Coquitlam, BC; grandchildren Brodie, Brandon and Keisha Holmes; sisters Donna and Brenda Holmes of Stratford, Conn., Gayle (John) Simpson of Oshawa, ON; brothers James McNally of Oshawa, ON, and Douglas McNally of Maple Ridge, BC.; brothers-in-law Wayne (Sandy) MacNeill of Winsloe, PEI; Wendell (Annis) MacNeill of Yarmouth, NS; John (Mollie) Malone of San Diego, California; Alyre Pineau of South Rustico, PEI; sisters-in-law Paula (Chris) Payne of Charlottetown; Linda (Garry-deceased) Bresee of Blackfalds, Alta; Evelyn (Lou) Arsenault of Burlington, ON; Phyllis McGrath of Hamilton, ON; and Faye Malone of Bonshaw, PEI; numerous nieces and nephews, far too many to mention for fear of missing someone.
Predeceased by grandparents Matt and Maude Dwyer, Stellarton, NS; Willie and Elizabeth Holmes, St. Andrews, NB; adopted father Jack Holmes; step-father Charles Christie; brother Norman Holmes; first wife Patricia Malone-Cardiff; son William David Holmes age 6 months; daughter Deborah Ann Holmes, 40 years of age; and by infant granddaughter Breann Holmes.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home for visitation Tuesday 3-6 p.m. Funeral mass Wednesday from The Church of the Most Holy Redeemer at 10 a.m. Interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.
