Francis Joseph Gill

86, Louisbourg. The family announces the passing of Francis Gill on May 7, 2012 at the Glace Bay Hospital, Glace Bay. Born in Brigus, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Dr. Frederick and Ida (Burnam) Gill. A veteran of WW II, Francis served with the Merchant Marine and the Royal Navy. A life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 62, Louisbourg, Francis held various offices on the executive and was presented the Legion’s Meritorious Service Award. He was a member of Stella Maris Parish, Louisbourg. Francis is survived by his sister, Joan Sheppard, Sydney; brother, Lee Gill, Charlottetown; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Pearl; sisters: Mary, Margaret, Betty; brothers: Burnam, Herbert, John and Clifford. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held May 10, 2012 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, Sydney from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service was held 11:00 am May 11,2012 in the funeral home chapel. A sincere thank you to the staff of the Veterans’ Wing, Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay, for making Francis’ last days more comfortable.
