It is with the deepest sadness and sorrow that we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Francis Gerard Yates of 184 Dominion St., Glace Bay, on May 11, 2012, at home.
Born in Glace Bay on Aug. 9, 1951, Francis was the son of the late Louis A. ‘Duckie’ and Margaret (AuCoin) Yates.
Francie, had a wonderful sense of humour and a smile for everyone he met. Affectionately known as “The Duke,” Francie was an avid sports fan who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing and working in his garden.
He was employed with Phalen’s Bakery, Broughton Mines, Sydney Steel Corp. and the Cape Breton Development Corp., until his retirement.
Francie is survived by his wife, Barbara (Brufatto); children, Mark (Jennifer) and Tara; grandchildren, Matthew, Jae Lynn and Lucas; brothers, Louie (Geri), Weldie (Joan) and Darrell (Ruth); sisters, Jacqueline, Linda (Ronnie) and Beverly (Rick); sister-in-law, Isabel and their families. He is also survived by father and mother-in-law, Louis and Norma Brufatto; brothers-in-law, Donald (Darlene), Jimmy (Judy) and David; sisters-in-law, Diane (Kevin), Irene (Ricky), Pauline (John), Patricia (Ed), and Brenda (Terry) and their families. Francie is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Besides his parents, Francie was also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Jeanette (Brufatto) MacNeil and brother-in-law, John Brann.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church with the Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
