BIG ISLAND – The daughter of the late Donald B. and Isabel (Freestone) Fay was born in Moncton, NB December 4, 1947 and died May 12, 2012 at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, NS.
She grew up in Port Elgin and Sackville, NB. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University and a Bachelor of Education from Dalhousie University. After beginning her teaching career in Middle Musquodoboit, she taught English, math, and drama in Pictou County high schools, including 23 years at East Pictou Rural High. After receiving her Master of Arts in Teaching degree from St. Francis Xavier University, she was a part-time lecturer in the English Department at St. F.X. She was a founding member of the Coastline Theatre Society and the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Pictou County. She was a lover of music, theatre, travel and tennis.
She is survived by Neil, her beloved husband of 42 years; daughters Susan (Blaise Myette), Halifax; Sheila (Bryan Andrews), Burnaby, BC; granddaughter Kate, son John, Iqaluit, NU, brother Dr. Donald F. Fay, Halifax, and seven nieces and nephews.
There will be no memorial service. Memorial donations may be made to the palliative care unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, the CNIB Library, the Tearmann Society, or to a charity of your choice.
