Passed peacefully away after a brief illness on Mother’s day, May 13, 2012, in the presence of her loving family, Rita May Hefferton, in her 97th year. Wife of the late G. Bernard Hefferton (1969); predeceased by her parents Rev. William Butler and Lilian (Parsons); sisters: Irene (Ray Bradbury), Mary (Don Barter), and Marion (George Rowe, deceased). Left to mourn her children: Barbara Joy, Bernice (Jim Love), Bill (Donna), Harold (Barbara Anne); eight grandchildren: Shelly (Don Baker), Mary-Beth (Jason Sweeney), Stephen (Rebecca), Jonathan (Kate), Mark, David (Nalini), Christopher (Marie), and Andrew (Amanda); six great-grandchildren: Harrison, Ava, Abigail, Thomas, Sadie-Rita, Grayson, and very soon to arrive her 7th great-grandchild. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Sue (Chet) Michalski for all the loving care and attention shown to our mother over the years. Also thank you to Peggy Walsh and the Harnum family. Special thanks to the staff at St. Luke’s Home for their special care and compassion shown to Rita during her stay there. Rita touched many hearts over her lifetime during her nursing years showing compassion and professional care to each and everyone and garnered many valued friendships, which lasted her entire life. Rita had a wonderful sense of humor lighting up a room whenever she arrived. Rita also leaves to mourn special cousin Margaret Parsons, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Monday, May 14, 2012, from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday May 15, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place from the Anglican Cathedral on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory may be made to the Anglican Cathedral Endowment Fund.
