It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Gerald Beaton at the Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth, May 14, 2012, the date of his 58th wedding anniversary.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late John and Beatrice (Bruce) Beaton.
He attended St. Agnes School. After he graduated from St. FX in 1947, he received BSc., diploma in engineering. He worked at the Sydney Steel Plant for several years. After completing addition studies he worked as an educator at the Adult Vocational Centre, Pt. Edward, and the Nova Scotia Technical College, Sydney, until he retired.
Gerald was a past president of the Cape Breton Branch Navy League of Canada, administrator of the Sea Cadets in Cape Breton. He was also the commanding officer of the Sea Cadets in New Waterford and Sydney.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Jean (Purdy); sisters, Mabel (Frank) Barnard, Irene (Edward) Halloran, Isabel, Loretta; brother, Alban; sister-in-law, Florence (MacIntyre) Beaton; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Alma (William) MacIntyre, Hilda (James) Jones, brothers, Jerome, Gerard, and sisters-in-law, Florence and Sharon.
