On May 14, 2012 Boyd passed away in Calgary at the age of 91.
Dad is survived by his children Larry (Carla) Robinson, Shelley (Dave) O'Grady, Shannon (Doug) Fraser, Nan Robinson, grandchildren Kelli (Mike) Andrew, Shane, Kelsey, Kate and Libby, sisters-in-law Edith Robinson and Sue Koshinski and many nephews and nieces. Dad recently welcomed his first great grandchild baby Mia to the family.
Dad was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Anne, 6 weeks ago. He is also predeceased by both his parents and all three of his brothers.
Dad was born August 9, 1920 in Benito, Manitoba to Frederick and Hazel Robinson. He was the eldest of four boys. Dad had to quit school and start working after grade 9 when his family moved to B.C. He always regretted this as education was very important to him. He joined the Air force during WWII and this is where he met Mom. Mom and Dad married after the war and they both went back to school where he got his Civil Engineering Degree from UBC. Dad worked on many different projects across Canada and retired from Lornex Mine in 1982. After retirement Mom and Dad spent their winters in Mesa and their summers at the cabin at Leighton Lake.
Square Dancing was a passion with Mom and Dad and helped them make friends where ever Dad's work took them. Dad's greatest pastime was fishing at Tunkwa and Leighton Lake. He could catch fish when no one else was catching any but was always willing to share the fly that was working for him. He might even go home and tie that fly for the lucky fisherman.
Dad was a great debater. He led the family discussions that would usually start with "So what do you think about this article in the paper?" In the Robinson family it did not matter what side you took as long as you took a side and defended it to the end. Humour always gave you brownie points.
Dad struggled with memory problems in his last few years but never lost his good sense of humour. Larry recently asked Dad, "What's new?" to which Dad replied, "Everything!"
The family would like to say thanks to the staff at Colonel Belcher in Calgary that cared so well for both Mom and Dad in their last few years.
At Dad's request there will be a private family celebration of his life.
Should friends desire, donations in memory of Dad would be appreciated to the charity of your choice.
We love you Dad and will miss you very much but we know you had to go to be with Mom.
