Joyce Eleanor Denton

Denton, Joyce Eleanor, 82 of Truro, Colchester Co. passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care Facility. Born in Avonport, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Leslie D. & Marion B. (Lockhart) Carey and loving wife of the late Dr. Leonard R. Denton. Before getting married Joyce taught in the Arlington School in Kings Co. & was then a dedicated home maker for many years. She was also a floral arranger at Jean’s Florist in Truro before retirement. Joyce was a past Secretary, World Affairs Officer and Regent-President of the Isgonish Chapter of the IODE and was made a Primary Life member of this group in 2005. She was also a member the First Baptist Church in Truro. Joyce will be remembered for the smile that was always on her face, the joy she had for life, the love that was always in her heart for everyone, and for her never-ending love and dedication to her family. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Karen Ivy (Glenn) Stratton, Truro; sons, Robert Leslie (Stephanie), Truro; Gregory Clifford, Guelph, Ont.; granddaughters, Chelsea Joy Surette (Donnie), Truro; Charlotte Sullivan (Greg), Truro; Margaret Gammon, Truro; grandsons, Jeremy Withrow, Edmonton, AB; Michael Stratton (Amanda), Riversdale; Raymond Gammon, Truro; great grandchildren, Erin & Evan Sullivan; Zachary Gammon; Orion Richard; sisters, Enid Fung, Avonport & Sandra (Tom) Fredericks, Kentville; brothers, Lemert (Donna) Carey; & Francis (Linda) Carey, both of Avonport; many nieces & nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda Withrow; grandson, Scott Withrow; sisters, Benita Rogers & Anna Warwick. Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Coldbrook. Visitation will take place in the Mattatall—Varnier Funeral Home, 55 Young St. Truro from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 30. The memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church, Truro. Rev. Dr. Frank Guinta & Rev. John Tonks officiating. Interment will take place in the Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Joyce may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of one’s choice.
