Edwin Lewis Kabatay passed away May 24, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Theresa and Notejinl Edward John Kabatay of Seine River Reserve, Ontario.
Edwin was known by his friends as ‘Bud’. Bud was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He enjoyed all sports, he especially liked playing golf, horse shoes, snow shoeing, playing and coaching hockey, and playing softball as a team member with the Membertou Thunderbirds. Bud also enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his friends. He was a past member of the citizen of the year award, Membertou. He was a proud member of the Kabatay Ceremonial Dancers and owner of Kabatay's 180.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cecielia (Dennis); children, Brent (Leigha), Karen (Adam) and Edwin. He will be missed greatly by Samara, Alexjij, Mathias, Scarlotte, Serissa; sisters, Irene and her children, Cindy, Chad and Vance, Edna (Wendell) and son, Edward James and grandchild, Brett: brothers, Alfred Joseph (Freida) and their children, Peter, Chance Bob and Alfred Jr. and their three grandchildren, Edward John Jr. (Carol) and their son, Christopher Ross, Harold Joseph and his children, Rhonda, Peter and Duane; godparents Mrs. Isabel and John Doucette; numerous grand-nieces, nephews and extended family members in Nova Scotia and Ontario .
Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother, Peter.
Visitation for the late Mr. Kabatay will begin after 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 14 Veteran's Ave., Membertou. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 at St. Anthony Daniel Church, Rev. Donald MacGillvary officiating.
