GARVEN, David Laurence, aged 82 years, formerly of Eastend, Saskatchewan died on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre. Born on August 10, 1929 at Eastend, Saskatchewan, the second son of John and Anne Garven, both he and his brother Robert, left home to work for a living. Dave went to the Govenlock - Vidora irrigation project operating heavy machinery and then on to the V Bar Ranch on the Red Deer River to work as a ranch hand. In 1951 both brothers returned to lease the farm from their father who was in very poor health. Upon their father’s death in 1967 they continued to grow the farm and formed a partnership. Although farming was the main occupation, David was the consummate cowboy and rodeo announcer including many years as Murraydale Rodeo’s announcer. After marrying Nan in 1968 they had two children Tom (1971) and Elizabeth (1972). Riding horses ran in the family and they all spent the summer training and showing horses together. After Robert died, Dave sold the farm and eventually came to live in Eastend. During that time Tom would marry Lisa (2002) and David gained two grandchildren in Davin (2003) and Sennarey (2007). David eventually moved to Shaunavon Long Term Care where he ended his days. He was predeceased by his parents John and Annie Garven, his brother Robert and his best friend Raider. He is survived by his son Thomas Garven (Lisa) of Hazlet and their children Davin and Sennarey; his daughter Elizabeth Garven of Edmonton and the mother of his children Nan Garven of Edmonton. A Memorial Gathering to Honor the Memory of Dave Garven was held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eastend Memorial Hall in Eastend. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
