CHARLES T.G. (Chuck) BARNES
Born February 22, 1919, passed away after a brief illness in hospital on May 26, 2012.
Chuck goes to join wife Isabel (2009) and sister Nancy. He is survived by his daughter Bev, sons James (Suzie) and Stewart (Debbie), grandchildren Stephen, David, Rychalle (Greg), Charlie, Amy and Richard, six great-grandchildren and sisters Hazel Kilbride and Lily Simms.
Chuck lived most of his life on the Coast and in Roberts Creek. He was a founding member of the Roberts Creek Volunteer Fire Department, served on the Roberts Creek Community Association and was named “Mr. Roberts Creek” in the mid ‘80s.
He worked as a caller for bingo games held by the Legion in both Roberts Creek and Sechelt. He also loved to fish and golf.
Prior to retiring, Chuck served the RCAF during WWII and after the war he rejoined and served as a member of Flight Squadron 121 – Search and Rescue for 25 years.
Chuck moved back to Gibsons after his wife passed and resided at Gibsons Garden Inn, then Christenson Village. He loved both places and was treated with compassion, dignity and respect. Special thanks for being there for our Dad.
Heartfelt thanks to the nurses, staff and caregivers at St. Mary’s Hospital, whose kindness and caring helped Chuck die with dignity. Thanks to Dr. B. Myhill-Jones for taking the time to keep the family informed.
No funeral by request.
A Celebration of Life for Chuck will be announced at a later date.
