MEIKLEFIELD – James “Jimmy” Edwin McInnis, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 at home.
Born in Meiklefield, Pictou County on January 18th, 1934, he was a son of the late Alvin Edwin and Alice Christine (Allen) McInnis.
Jimmy had been active in the Pictou County PC Party and was treasurer at one time for the Pictou County PC’s. Jimmy was devoted to his church, First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow and was well liked and respected at the church. Besides the time he spent working for the PC’s and the church, Jimmy was involved with Crime Prevention and the Community Hall at MacPherson’s Mills. Jimmy worked over 30 years for Stora in Port Hawkesbury before retiring to Meiklefield.
He loved his music especially the sweet sound of the fiddle.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, a brother Ronald Gerald McInnis and a sister Doris (McInnis) Fraser.
Cremation has taken place. A public memorial service will take place 2 p.m. on Sunday in the First Presbyterian Church, 208 MacLean Street, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
The family will receive visitors in First Presbyterian Church hall from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. on Sunday for a cup of tea and to reminisce Jim’s life.
Burial will be in the Meiklefield Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Pictou County SPCA.
