It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Louise McKinnon, 59, on Friday, June 8, 2012 at home.
Born in Sydney on Nov. 15, 1952, Louise was the daughter of Wanda (Kokoska) McKinnon of Sydney and the late Murdock McKinnon.
She was a member of Sacred Heart parish, Sydney. Louise was a graduate of Holy Angels High, Sydney; Nova Scotia Teachers College, Truro and furthered her studies at Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax. Louise was employed by the Halifax School Board for 35 years as a classroom teacher and administrator. Upon retirement in June 2009, she returned to Sydney. Louise was devoted to her family and the wellbeing of her mother, sister, brothers, nieces and nephews. She was physically active in health clubs and enjoyed skating, gardening and walks around Sydney's north end, where she would stop and chat with everyone. Louise will be missed forever by her family, friends and former students.
Louise is survived by her sister Dorothy (Hugh) MacKinnon, Coxheath; brothers Roddie, Windsor, N.S.; Jimmy, Sydney; Johnny, Port Hawkesbury and Joey (Roxanne), Sackville, N.B., as well as her 14 loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Louise McKinnon will take place on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 6-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Anthony O’Connor officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
