It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond MacIntyre, 64, who died suddenly on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at home.
Born in Sydney Mines on Oct. 10, 1947, he was the son of the late Roddie (Topper) and Ellen (Vickers) MacIntyre.
Raymond worked for many years in Ontario and Manitoba before returning home to Cape Breton where he worked in the Prince Mine, at Northside Auto Salvage, and later as a bartender at Branch 008 Legion before he was forced to retire due to ill health.
In his younger years Raymond loved fixing cars, and was a great mechanic - if it had a motor, he could fix it. In recent years, he loved spending time with family and friends and just having a good laugh.
He was a member of Branch 008 Legion, Sydney Mines, and served on the colour party for many years. When his health was better, Raymond loved to cook and could often be found in the kitchen at the legion cooking up a big pot of chowder for the men.
Raymond is survived by his sons, Raymond Jr. and Jason, and his daughter, Felicia; a grandson and a great-granddaughter. Also left to mourn are brothers, Lenny (Margie) and Cliff (Darlene) and sisters, Ann (Jim), Wendy (Jimmy), Cathy (George), Barb and Heather, and many nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by all his special friends at his apartment complex.
Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by brothers, Arthur, Purvis and Clayton and sisters, Bev, Alice and Bernetta.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place Friday, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. There will be a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 008, Sydney Mines, following the service.
Family flowers only. Donations in Raymond's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
