BARR, MARY CATHERINE (YERXA) - The passing of Mary Catherine Barr of Fredericton, widow of the late Albert Hazen Barr, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, June 12th, 2012 at the age of 93. Born at Mouth of Keswick, NB on April 26, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Lydia (Christie) Yerxa. Mary was a homemaker and was well known for her beautiful knitting which she lovingly gave to her family and friends. Mary was a member of the Olivet Wesleyan Church where she was an active member of the church Bible Study Club. She always looked forward to and enjoyed doing puzzles with the ladies at the apartment building. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she leaves behind two sons, Roy Frederick Barr (Diane) and Hazen Millard Barr (Amanda); two daughters, Joyce Catherine (Barr) Sutherland (Darrell) and Deborah Carrie (Barr) Conway (Ray); a son-in-law Ron Dupres (Norma); 29 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; a sister in Law, Evelyn (McLaughlin) Yerxa; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents, husband, a son Charlie Albert Barr, daughters (Celia) Eileen (Yerxa) Mitchell and Norma Jean (Barr) Dupres; granddaughters (Joyce) Annette Jewett and Dawn Marie Jewett; brothers Ralph and Melbourne (Clara Edmunson) Yerxa and a sister Estella Clark (late Charles).
The family will receive condolences at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Thursday June 14th, 2012 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. A service celebrating the life of Mary Catherine Barr will be held from Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel on Friday June 15th, 2012 at 2 PM with Rev. Lona Johnson and Rev. Conard Symonds officiating. Interment in the Mactaquac Baptist Cemetery. The Canadian Cancer Society, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation and the MS Society have been suggested by the family for memorial contributions.
