It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the death of Wayne Power of New Waterford. He passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, Wayne was the son of John Power (Betty Ann) and Rose Ann (Campbell) MacDonald (Doug).
Wayne was a lobster fisherman for most of his working life. Over the years, he played in several bands and was a lover of country music. An avid hockey player in his younger years, Wayne also enjoyed a game of cards, a good dance and good times with family and friends.
Besides his parents, Wayne is survived by his wife, Gail (Oliver) Power; his daughter, Lindsay (Matthew); three sisters, Wendy (Johnny) Desrosiers, New Waterford, Cheryl (Kevin) Poirier, Cheticamp, Megan Power, Montreal and two brothers, Keith (Joann), Vancouver, Jimmy, Cheticamp. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
At Wayne’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue with Fr. James Oliver, Fr. Gerald Campbell, Fr. Ray Huntley and Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Reception to follow at St. Leonard’s Hall on Convent Street. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Wayne’s honour may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
