It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Jennie Coll, on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney, with her family by her side.
Born in Sydney Mines, July 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James and Anne (Anderson) Campbell, and the loving wife of Alfred ‘Alfie’ Coll, all of Sydney Mines.
A true homemaker and caregiver at heart, Jennie was a wonderful mom, wife and nanny. She loved her family dearly. Jennie was a first class cook/baker who also loved a good game of cards, dancing, her favourite TV shows, and her beloved Toronto Blue Jays.
Left to mourn her passing are daughters, Evelyn (Russie Ivey) and Kay (Archie Pyke), Sydney Mines, and a son, Jim (Susan), Ottawa; grandchildren, Kimberly (Charles), Antigonish, Todd (Stephanie), Sydney, Jim (Sandy), Halifax, Heather, Sydney Mines, Cheryl (Lenny), Port Hawkesbury, and Linda, Ottawa. She is also survived by six beloved great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa Trenholm, Sydney Mines, and Dot Taylor, New Glasgow, and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband Alf, Jennie was predeceased by a grandson Darryl Coll, Ottawa, sisters, Mary White and Beatrice Campbell (18 mos), brothers, Hector, Kelly, Steve, Phil and Bobby Campbell. She was also predeceased by a dear and special friend Tom Bird.
The family would like to extend a sincere “thank you” to Dr. Doug Kohlsmith for the professional and dignified care he provided to Jennie over the years, and, to the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home — The loving and compassionate care bestowed upon ‘Nanny’ and her family was simply amazing. We will be forever grateful to you all.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A private family service will take place at a later date.
