It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, of Michael Joseph Steele, announce his passing on Sunday, June 17, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael and Christine (Brown) Steele.
Michael was a very hard worker. He was at one time a police officer for the town of Dominion and his last job was as a labourer. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a very avid fan of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. He loved spending time with his family and friends at the bungalow. Michael was famous for telling stories about his life. He also had a passion for all animals, especially his dog Jake and cat Babe.
Michael will be greatly missed by his best friend of 39 years, Bev; special grandson, TJ, who resided with him; four children, Donna (Brent) Cameron, Fraser (Michele) Steele, Norma (Jimmy) MacDonald, Robbie (Patricia) Steele; the pride and joy of his life, his 11 grandchildren, Jason, Marcie (Rick), Sherri (Chris), Tara (AJ), Jamie (Alyssa), Shauna (Matt), Amy (James), Glen, TJ, Kayla and Robert; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Kyle, Kendra, Alyssa and Brody; sisters, Kay Ford, Billy (Erville) Stubbard, Norma; brother, David; brother-in-law, Tommy Trainor; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Veronica ‘Sis’, Anne, Gertie; brother, Dougie and the mother of his children, Sharon Steele.
There will be no visitation by Michael’s request. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with the Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Burial to follow, in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Glace Bay Town Daycare Playground Fund.
