WILLIAMS – Elsie Mae (nee Gill)
April 23, 1923 –June 16, 2012

Elsie Mae Williams of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012.

Elsie was born on April 23, 1923 and raised near Silton and Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. She was a caring older sister to Kenneth, Reginald, Gordon and James. She helped raise her brothers and helped her parents, Joseph and Emma Gill, on the farm.

Elsie worked in Regina where she met her future husband on the train. Mick was sent to England after he joined the R.C.A.F. and became a navigator for No. 427 Lion Squadron. Elsie waited for Mick, even after he was declared MIA. Mick was liberated from a POW camp at the end of the war in Europe and came home to marry Elsie on July 23, 1945. They moved to Prince Albert where both children were born and Mick worked for the Penitentiary Service. The family relocated to Drumheller, Alberta in 1966 when Mick was transferred there. Elsie worked in retail and enjoyed sewing, square dancing and volunteering for the United Church UCW.

After Mick’s retirement they moved to Calgary. They made new friends, did some traveling independently and together with Southwood Seniors. After Mick passed, Elsie moved to The Lodge at Valley Ridge. Elsie will be sadly missed by her close-knit family. Elsie had to contend with a variety of health issues in later life, thankfully she is at peace now.

Elsie was a loving mother to Brian (Peggy O’Rourke) Williams of Calgary and Marian (Patrick) Smiley of Canmore. She was also blessed with two wonderful granddaughters, Marilee Alyssa Rose Smiley and Sarah Elizabeth Deane Williams.

She was predeceased by husband, Albin Robert “Mick” on September 26, 2004.

A Memorial Service will be held at Parkdale United Church, 2919-8th Avenue N.W. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. A private family graveside service will follow at a later date at Edenbrook Memorial Gardens. Forward condolences through www.hffs.com.
