Reginald Calhoun

Born: August 29th, 1923

Passed in: Duncan, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: June 17th, 2012

Reginald (Rex) Lloyd Calhoun (August 29, 1923 – June 17, 2012) passed away peacefully in his long time friend and partners arms after a brief three day illness. An extraordinary man; painter, weaver, potter, teacher and so much more. He inspired three generations of students to pursue their passion for art, in all its forms, and gave of himself unstintingly to the advancement of the arts in British Columbia during his long and productive life. Rex touched the lives of so many, and inspired them to be the best they could be in all they did. He will be sorely missed by his many friends around the country and around the world. In his own words he encouraged everyone to: “Make something beautiful, do something different, and to take all the time you need”. The world became his classroom and he took all who met him under his wing. He was ever the teacher, a fun and beloved elder, often mistaken for Santa Claus by little children as he aged. He loved that. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Cowichan Valley Hospice, 3122-Gibbins Road, Duncan BC, Canada V9L 1G2 Phone 1-888-701-4242
