Robert MacRae

Robert Kenyon MacRae, 88 of Abercrombie, formerly of Riverton, Pictou County, passed away June 21, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late George and Betty (Durnford) MacRae.
Robert was a resident of Riverton for some 40 years having lived the past three years in Abercrombie.
He was a former employee of Warren Maritimes for some 16 years where he retired as District Manager. He served in WWII, retiring as Flying Officer, having flown in combat with both Mustang Mk IV’s and Spitfire Mark IX’s.
During his life, Robert spearheaded countless community service committees and was past president of various groups including the Stellar Curling Club, 110 Wing of the R.C.A.F.A., Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28, Stellarton as well as Zone 6 Commander. He was a member and elder of Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton, as well as a founding member of the Pictou County Christmas Tree Co-Op. He co-owned and operated along with his son David a Christmas Tree Farm for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Helen (Bouchie), Abercrombie; daughters, Heather (Ron) MacKinnon, Halifax along with their three children; Jane (Don) Curry, Elkford, B.C. along with their one child; Catherine, Truro, along with her three children; Brenda (D.J.) Campbell, River Road, along with their one child; son, Ian (Gail), Bridgewater along with his two children; Brian (Wendy), Truro along with their three children; David (Arlene), Lyon’s Brook along with their two children; Peter (Denise), Hopewell along with her two children; nine great-grandchildren, a sister Jean Thompson, Kingston, Ontario; a brother Gerald, Vancouver.
He was predeceased by a sister Doreen Blenkhorn.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday from Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton with Rev. John Roy presiding assisted by Hal Llewellyn and Father Peter MacDonald.
A reception will follow in the church hall with a private family burial to follow the reception in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Sharon St. John United Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church or to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital.
