Stuart Ryder
RYDER, STUART ROBERT - Stuart Robert Ryder, 73, of Halifax passed away suddenly Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax Infirmary. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Robert and Theda (Alward) Ryder. Stu served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in (H)&(B) Divisions from Febuary 1961 - June 1987. After retirement, he worked as a private investigator and polygrapher. Stu served as president of the CFB Windsor Curling Club and of the Provincial and National Police Curling Association. He was also a director of the RCMP veteran's association. Stu especially loved times spent at the cottage on Sherbrooke Lake, where he enjoyed hunting (at Stumpy's Lodge), boating, watching and feeding the local wildlife. Stu will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of over 29 yrs, Beth; children, David Ryder, Ottawa, ON, Debbie (Chris) DeViller, Lower Sackville, Kim Gale, Calgary, AB, Shawn Gale, Whitecourt, AB; grandchildren, Evan, Stephen and Sarah; sisters, Marilyn (Stan) Constantine, Rothesay, NB, Barbara (Doug) Finlay, Saint John, NB, Janet Horsman (Barry Covill), Moncton, NB; sister- in- law, Judy (Norbert) Joyce, Corner Brook, NF; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m. Sunday, June 24 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 25 followed by interment in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville. Father Lloyd O'Neill officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to the Diabetes Association.
