It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Walter P. Crane at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Friday, June 22, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Phyllis (Ryan) Crane and the late Walter A. Crane.
He was employed as an operations supervisor with the Department of Transportation. A master of many trades, he enjoyed repairing, rebuilding, and making perfect anything he put his hand to. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, step dancer and fisherman.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Fran (Phillippo); daughter, Monica (Darrell) Crane-Spracklin, Calgary; sisters, Barbara (Bob) Cowieson, Ontario, Sharon Crane (Billy MacKinnon), Coxheath, Darlene (Tom) Morris, Coxheath, Rose Crane, Ontario; and brother, Robert (Julia) Crane, Ontario; his three nephews, Riley Morris, Coxheath, Scott and Ryan Cowieson, Ontario; as well as his mother-in-law, Louise Munroe, Coxheath; and sister-in-law, Linda Dacre, Ontario.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his sister, Bonnie Crane, father-in-law, Frank Phillippo, and brother-in-law, Cecil Dacre.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating, reception to follow. Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
