We regret to announce the passing of George Haggett, 69, of George’s River, on Monday, June 25, 2012, at the Northside General Hospital, after a 10 year battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney on June 4, 1943, George was the son of the late George and Anne (Robinson) Haggett. He was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, North Sydney.
George was the owner/operator of Haggett’s Dairy. He recently celebrated 50 years of service to the community he loved so much, George’s River, and the surrounding areas.
He is survived by his children; son, Bruce Haggett (Beverly) and grandson, Gabriel Haggett, Sydney and his daughter, Rachel Haggett (Wayne Devoe) and grandchildren Jesse, Wyatt and Ethan Devoe, George’s River. Also left to mourn are brothers and sisters, Mary (Tom) Adams, Nfld., Shirley (Riley) Farrell, B.C., Cecilia (Kevin) Fyfe, Sydney Mines, Tim (Bobbie) Haggett, North Sydney, Kathryn (Art) Petite, Lower Sackville, Rosemary (Tom) Raymond, Lower Sackville, and Yvette Silver (Paddy McGuigan), Sydney Mines.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by a son in infancy.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ron MacCormick, Dr. Jansen and the nursing staff at the cancer center.
Visitation for George Haggett will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Thursday, June 28, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating. The burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. A reception will be held at the George’s River Fire Hall, after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Center or to a charity of one’s choice.
