Ethel Marguerite Halliday
Ethel Marguerite Halliday, 80, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2012 at The Mira in Truro. Born on August 7, 1931 to Percy Langille and Hattie Jack in Melrose, Guysborough Co. N.S. Survived by children Carl (Cheryl), Vancouver BC, Linda Mason (Bruce Cox), Upper Stewiacke, David (Marion) Stellarton and their father, Carl (Gerry) Halliday, Truro, daughter-in-law, Maureen Halliday, North River. The sparkle in Mom’s blue eyes was never greater than when she was with her Grandchildren - Michelle, Scott, Craig (Emer), Allison, Adam (Paula), Christine, Nicole, Maren, C.R., Jessi, Collin & Kate. Ethel is also survived by loving sisters Shirley (Willie) Bennet, North River, Charlotte Everett, Virginia, Bertha Cormier, Sudbury Ont and loving brothers Bryan (Mariam) Langille, Charlottetown PEI and Bud (Millie) Langille, Onslow. Also remembering Ethel are “special sisters” Pauline Halliday of New Glasgow and Julie Langille of Stewiacke as well as many special nieces, grand-nieces, and nephews - you know who you are. She was pre-deceased by sister & brother-in-law Alice & Joe Mochilan, New Waterford CB, sister Catherine in infancy and brother, Bill Langille, Stewiacke, NS.
Mom had several careers as a graduate of St. Charles Commercial College in Amherst, NS but her favorite was as Gram to her Grandchildren ( or any child she could spend time with!!) Her love of babies & children was so sweet that you couldn’t help smile at her enjoyment of being in their company. Mom’s skills in the kitchen were always enjoyed by her family and friends, especially her donuts and, of course, the many, many pans of Lazy Daisy squares. She never tired of making them for us even though we always fought over who would get the corners! Mom’s expertise at knitting is legendary and the click-click of her needles is a sound we will all miss.
The family, especially Linda & Michelle, want to thank Mom’s “Mira Family” for the respect and compassion shown to her and us over the last 3 years, thank you Debbie for being with her at the end. As well, Dr. Graham who kept such a close eye on Mom over all these years, God Bless you all.
In lieu of flowers donations to the IWK Hospital would put a smile on Mom's face as she watches over the babies & children with her angel wings or to the Mira Social Fund to help them continue the many unique activities enjoyed by the residents. A private celebration of Ethel’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the wonderful people at Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, PO Box 751, 55 Young St. Truro, NS B2N 5E8 Private messages of condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the guest book at www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
