It is with heavy hearts that we, Greg, Matthew and Betty, announce the sudden passing of Tom Spencer, which occurred Saturday, June 23, 2012, at University Hospital in Edmonton, Alta.
Born in Sydney, he was the second oldest son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Betty Burke) Spencer.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jane Anne (2002) and his sister-in-law, Paula (2010).
Tom was employed at W.A. MacLeod’s for 39 years.
He was a member of the Sydney Pensioners Club, where he volunteered at banquets and enjoyed playing darts. He was a member of Seaview Golf & Country Club, as well as an avid bowler.
He is survived by his sons, Greg (Clare), Ottawa, and Matthew (Lindsey), Howie Centre; grandson, Parker, Howie Centre; his partner, Betty McLean and her family. Tom is also survived by his brothers, Charlie (Roma), Edmonton, Arthur (Debbie), Albert Bridge, Everett (Susan), Albert Bridge, and David, Sydney; sisters, Theresa (Raymond) MacDonald, Halifax, Donna (Stan) Greenwood, Halifax, Glenda (Harry) Kennedy, Catalone, and Valda Spencer, Sydney. Also surviving are his aunt, Clara Wilson, Dartmouth; brother-in-law, James (Barbara) MacMullan, Florida; sister-in-law, Therese (Joseph) MacDonald, Dartmouth; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Saturday, 10 a.m., with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Mira.
