It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Stroud, our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Evelyn passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Harbour Le Cou, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Harriet (Taylor) Graham.
Evelyn was a strong health food advocate for most of her life. She educated herself in the practices of holistic living over the years, and was very dedicated, even though it was not common or popular at the time. She instilled the values and importance of healthy eating and living in her children and grandchildren, and became well known in the community for helping anyone who came asking for her help and guidance.
Evelyn was an active member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, where she and her husband Norman, had many fond memories as members of the Married Couples Group.
Evelyn is survived by her five children, Norma (Gordon) Patterson, Boularderie, Harriett Patey, Trenton, Ont., Glen (Winnie) Stroud, St. Catharines, Ont., Wanda (Harry) Harbin, Sydney Mines, Alvin (Karen) Stroud, North Sydney; her 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Shirley Bell, Hackey Peters and brother, Cyrus Graham, all of Ontario.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Stroud, sister, Rachel Foxwell and brothers, Russell, Sam and Leslie Graham.
Visitation for Evelyn will be 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church North Sydney, with Rev. Carl Fraser, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery.
