Placid "Bucket" Robichaud
It is with great sadness that the family of Placid "Bucket" Joseph Robichaud age 85 of Amherst announce his passing on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Gables Lodge, Amherst, NS.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Placid and Elizabeth (Barton) Robichaud.
Bucket spent his life as quality control manager for Chapman's Beverages; he was a certified pop mixer for almost 50 years. He was well known in Amherst and surrounding area as an interior and exterior painter and worked until he was 81 years of age; he painted the cross that stood atop the former St. Charles Church in Amherst. His hobbies included dancing, painting, watching boxing, fishing, playing cards and checkers. He loved to tell stories of the past and always managed to make people laugh. He was a lover of animals; he would take loaves of bread out to feed the seagulls at the mall parking lot. Later in his life he became a resident at Willow Lodge in Tatamagouche where he made many friends. He later transferred to Gables Lodge in Amherst to be closer to his family and friends. Placid was very generous, making sure to donate money to help many churches, St. Anns, and the R.C.M.P. He was a member of the R.C.A.F. and the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and a 3rd. Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bucket is survived by his wife the former Kathleen Brown, one daughter Cathy (John) Varner and one son Craig (Shirley) both of Amherst, one sister Vina McGraw of Port Elgin, NB, four grandchildren Lisa (Joel) George, Aaron Hibberts (Krista Smith), Ronnie and Lynda Mae; great-grandchildren , Dominique, Dakota, Arianna, Vangie-Rae, Seth and Samantha. Also step grandchildren Allison and Shawn. Placid had many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly including Bernadette and Gerard, his nephew with whom he shared his home, Bruce Grebin. Also Fred(Peggy)Robichaud, Joyce Williams John, Peter Robichaud, Joan Porter, Roy, Allan, Jennifer ,Carol Howe, Beverly, Richard Robichaud, Wayne, Maggie, Danny and Julie and one niece that lived with the family Paulet Hunt. His best friends were his cat Candy, Reg Sonier and James Burke "Red" as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins other good friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Elva Dauvin, Nellie Melanson, Annie Robichaud, Clara Robichaud and Leona Grebin and brothers Peter, Roy, Ernest, Alfred and Joseph, granddaughter Janet Lynn and nephew Florian McGraw.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst, NS (667-9906)
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
Interment will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.
