After a long courageous fight, Jackie lost her battle with cancer, surrounded by those she loved, on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen Pomeroy.
Jackie was involved with her church, the Salvation Army in Sydney, volunteering many hours at the food bank and Christmas kettles. She was also involved in Bible study, home league and women’s ministries. She had a passion for her loving God, and it showed in her faith. Jackie’s pride and joy was her granddaughter, Abigayle Grace, born Nov. 2010.
Jackie is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Neil) MacLeod, Alberta, who was blessed to be by her mother’s side the last four months; granddaughter, Abigayle Grace; sisters, Lucille Leonard and Stella Murphy, both of Windsor, Ont.; Margie Quann (Charlie), Glace Bay and Edie (Wayne) Miller, Sydney; brothers, Bill (Ann), Toronto, Ont. and John (Bonnie), Windsor, Ont.; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Gayle Ings, Gordena MacLeod, Carol-Lee Barrington and Leona Lewis.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, Jim ‘Jimmy’; sister, Eunice Phillips; brother-in-law, Douglas Leonard and nephews, Stephen Phillips and Paul Leonard.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life will be held in the chapel on Sunday 2 p.m., with Majors Morris and Wanda Vincent, along with Lieutenants, Josh and Joyce Downer officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. D’Intino, palliative care nurses, Michelle and Beth, palliative care unit, 4B nurses and staff at the CBRH and the VON nurses for all their care, support and prayers given to Jackie and her family.
Memorials may be made to the palliative care unit at the CBRH.
