It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Connie ‘Ma’ Currie on Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Winnie Murphy.
Connie enjoyed spending quality time with her family sitting around the dining room table as well as her long drives with her best friend/sister-in-law, Joan. Connie resided on Third Street most of her life and was known as ‘Ma’ to many.
Connie leaves behind her four children, sons, Fred (Sheila), Naish; and daughters, Winnie (Darryl Hart) and Michelle (Allan MacLean); 14 grandchildren, Freddie (Tara), John (Cori-Leigh), Michael (Ashley), Darla (Nick), Heidi (Willie), Matthew (Gabby), Naish (Brianna), Deryk (Sara), Anthony, Jeremy, Amber, Fallon (Dan), Mark (Megan), Stephen (Tammy); nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Tyson, Aaiden, Caleigh, Jaidyn, Nicholas, Miley, Johnny and Eli; two ladies very near and dear to Connie’s heart were Dawn White and Shauna Robertson, whom she considered her “other daughters”; two sisters, Carmie (John Rafferty), Ann (daughter) (Brian Boland); two brothers, Wes (Joan), Harry (Monty); and many nieces and nephews who all meant the world to her.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Naish, daughter, Florence, brother, Donnie, sister, Margie, sister-in-law, Ralphie and nephew, Little Don.
There will be no visitation, by Connie’s request. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 4 at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen, with the Rev Leo Boone officiating. A reception will follow the service at St. Leo’s Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
