Today we the family, with heavy hearts, announce the passing of the heart and strength of our family, as our precious mom, Theresa Gouthro, was called home.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Annie Francis (Weir) MacLean.
Mom loved her family dearly and she was the center of our world. She always had a smile on her face and a laugh that seemed to come from her toes.
Her home was her castle and she was always rearranging or renovating it, while constantly striving to have it spotless. To her family and friends, entering Theresa’s home meant happiness and comfort, especially during the summer, when her home became a swinging door of nearby and out of town friends and family, who were always welcomed with a cup of tea, tea biscuit and a home cooked meal.
Our family has been left devastated and heart broken. We take some comfort in knowing she has gone into the waiting arms of family and friends in heaven and that we will all meet again one day. We will cherish our many wonderful memories of our mom. She will never really leave us but reside in our hearts everyday.
Left to mourn mom is her adoring family, her daughters, Rosemary (Hector) Campbell, Sydney Mines, Michelle Gouthro (Jonathan MacDonald), Long Island; her sons, Richard (Mary) Gouthro, Lindsay (Betty) Gouthro, both of North Sydney, Michael Gouthro, Joseph Gouthro, both of Ft. McMurray, Alta., Sheldon (Denise) Gouthro, Elmsdale, Timothy Gouthro, at home; her nine grandchildren, Derek, Sheila, Samantha, Nicole, Mandy, Kayla, Jillian, Haley, Joshua; her two great-grandchildren, Coen, Jada; her six siblings, David (Debbie) MacLean, Gilford, Ont., Vince (Rose) MacLean, Bras d’Or, John James (Val) MacLean, Calgary, Hughie (Holly) Smith, Alliston, Ont., Ann Francis (Tony) Gardiner, Tottenham, Ont., Joanne Nichol, Florence; several nieces and nephews and by her two best friends, Mona Olson, Duncan, B.C., Annie MacLean, North Sydney.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Hilton Gouthro, her son, Johnny Gouthro, grandson, John Edward, three brothers, Hughie, Bobby, Doug and seven sisters, Christine, Mary, Betty, Sarah, Jean, Sharon, Linda.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Palliative Care, VON, Dr. Bill MacDonald, the physicians and staff of the C.B. Cancer Centre and the Northside General Hospital, as well as the many friends and family who helped us during mom’s illness.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Theresa will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Friday, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
