It is with deep sadness that wee announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Rita Margaret (nee Leach), surrounded by family and friends, on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Garrett and Mary (White) Norman.
She was a long time resident of Church Street, Sydney Mines and member of Immaculate Conception Parish. Rita was proud to be employed by Maritime Tel & Tel Co. and worked in North Sydney and Newfoundland as a telephone operator. She spent leisure time knitting and sewing.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard A. Leach; and children, Stuart (Carol), Nancy (Jacques), Lynette (Christian), Carolyn (Rick) and 13 grandchildren.
Besides her parents Rita was predeceased by her son, Richard; sisters Rose Bonnar and Jesse Hyde; brothers Thomas, William and Patrick (Leo) Norman.
Mom was the last surviving member of her family. She will be missed by her many friends who shared her passion for Bingo.
She was grateful to be cared for by the professional, caring staff at the Northside General, 4 West, and by Dr. John Kirkpatrick.
No visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 20 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating.
