CUMMINGS, William George Ernest “Bill”, RCN (Ret’d) – 83, Charlottetown, formerly of Truro, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, July 18, 2012, at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, from Lewy Body Disease. Born May 23, 1929, in Wallace, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Ernest and Hattie (Boone) Cummings. Bill served with the Royal Canadian Navy (Chief Warrant Officer) before retiring in 1973 followed by 15 years as a civilian member of the RCMP. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Betty Margaret (Peppard); children, William “Bill” (Debora), Bonnie (Mark), all of Ottawa, Ontario; Brian (Patricia), Waterloo, Ontario; Belinda Rogers (Gordon), Charlottetown; grandchildren, William Cummings (Michele), Andrew Cummings, Danny Cummings, David Cummings, Michael Rogers, Alexander Rogers, Rachel Neilsen, Emily Neilsen; great grandchildren, William Cummings, Christian Cummings; siblings, Robert “Bob” Cummings, Lola Lynds, Evelyn Soper, Margaret Johnson. Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by his siblings, James Rector, Millard Rector, Melita Geldart, Mina Canning, Lois (Tiny) Smith, Dorothy Quigley, Jean Lambke, Donald “Donnie” Cummings. The Cummings family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Summerside and Charlottetown hospitals as well as Beach Grove Home for their care and support. Bill’s family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, July 21, 2012, in Belvedere Funeral Home, 175 Belvedere Avenue, Charlottetown. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2012, in Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, Reverend Roger Moore officiating. Reception will follow. Interment will be held in Robie Street Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Bill’s memory to Salvation Army or charity of choice are welcomed.
