Ramona ‘Mona’ MacLeod of Catalone died peacefully, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Friday, July 20, 2012, at the age of 81.
Born in Port Bickerton, Mona was the daughter of the late Everett Corkum and Lucille Hiltz.
Mona is survived by her husband, Harvey; and by her two sons, Donald (Cathie) MacLeod and Stuart (Suzanne) MacLeod. Also survived by two sisters, Doris Burke and Marjorie Elliot. She will be lovingly missed by her two grandsons, Jesse MacLeod and Matthew MacLeod.
Mona owned Le Chameau Bed and Breakfast in Catalone along with her husband Harvey for 25 years. Over the years she entertained many friends over cups of tea and she was the recipient of the Ambassadors Award for exemplary service in the tourism industry.
Mona was an avid bird lover and took great pleasure in her backyard friends.
At the family’s request a private ceremony will be held at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will follow at Lochend Cemetery in Catalone.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on 4B and the palliative-care unit.
