ETHEL PEAKMAN

Ethel Peakman of Calgary, passed away peacefully with her children at her side, on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the age of 87 years.
Ethel was born and spent her youth in Silsoe, Bedfordshire, England. In 1943, she joined the RAF and served in the same regimen as Princess Elizabeth. In 1944, Ethel married James Peakman, a Canadian officer; she and Jim moved to Spring Valley, SK. in 1946, where they raised their family. Jim started to work at the post office and then moved to Moose Jaw, Ethel then worked at the training school. They later relocated to Calgary, then Airdrie to be close to their family. Nana was a true matriarch; a foundation of her family. A strong, bold woman who braved moving halfway across the world for love. She enjoyed family gatherings, travelling, fishing, playing cards and baking for her family and friends.
Ethel is survived by her sons Jim of Duncan, BC and Gordon (Wenda) of Moose Jaw, SK; daughters Linda (Robert) of Calgary, Rita (Merle) of Picture Butte, and Janet of Airdrie; nephew Tony (Judy) of Calgary; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Ethel was predeceased by her beloved husband Jim, and brother Clifford.
A Celebration of Ethel’s Life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
