Roderick James McNeil, Towerview Place, Sydney, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Roderick McNeil, Christmas Island, and the late Marion (Chandler) McNeil, Sydney.
Rod moved to Toronto, where he spent most of his life working as a maintenance supervisor at the Wellsley Hospital until his retirement when he moved home. While living in Toronto, Rod was involved whole heartedly in the Toronto Indy Races.
He enjoyed reading, movies and most of all, his Saturday night card games with friends, Neil MacSween and Kenny Ryan, niece, Robyn Postlethwaite, brother, Bernie and sister, Francie.
Rod is survived by his sisters, Wilma Rowe (Bob) and Francie Hollohan and brother, Bernie, all of Sydney. Having no children of his own, Rod was close to his nieces and nephews, Rob and Brad Rowe, Kevin and Roddie McNeil, Kimberly and Nikki Hollohan and Pamela, Laura, Robyn and Erika Postlethwaite.
Besides his parents, Rod was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Eric Postlethwaite and by a brother, Frankie in childhood.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery.
