Lawrence "Larry" Wadlyn

WADLYN, LAWRENCE "LARRY" - Lawrence "Larry" Reginald Wadlyn, 91, of Moncton, NB, passed away July 13, 2012 in Moncton Hospital. After the death of his beloved wife Jean in 2010, he lived in Canterbury Court of the Parkland Riverview Residential Care facility, surrounded by caring staff and residents. Larry was born September 19, 1920 in Beaver Harbour, NB and remained there until he enlisted in the army at 19 years of age. After his discharge in 1945 he attended Dalhousie University and NS Technical College to obtain his degree in Civil Engineering. During that time he met and married Jean Findlay. They would spend 61 happy years together. Larry worked in Montreal and Halifax before settling down in Moncton to work for CNR, and later CN Marine. In Moncton he was involved in several service and community groups, and was a member of St. Georges Anglican Church and also a member of the Legion and Probus Club. Larry was a Past Master of Acadia Lodge # 49 and a member of Frank H. Tingley Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Moncton Shrine Club, Luxor Temple Shriners and a long-time member of the Luxor Temple Oriental Band. Larry was the consummate handyman, always happy to share his knowledge and abilities with neighbours, family and friends. He was a familiar sight at the Pointe-du-Chene family cottage, as he strode towards the beach with his mask, snorkel and clam bag in hand. His lithe, wiry frame did not show evidence of his immense enjoyment of food (especially cookies); rather, it illustrated his love of being active his whole life. He and Jean enjoyed their winters in Florida, and had a rich life entertaining friends with bridge parties and homemade wine. Left to mourn are Janet (John) Trites, Berwick, NS, Betty (Chuck) Steeves, Pointe-du-Chene, NB, and Phyllis (Richard) Bennett, Middleton, NS. Also left behind are 9 grandchildren: Marsha Trites Russell (Mike Russell), Jenny Trites (Matthew Downey), Peter Trites, Michael Trites, Carl Steeves, David Steeves (Julie Cook), Ian Bennett, Mark Bennett and Stephen Bennett. Larry was predeceased by his wife, Jean Viola (Findlay) Wadlyn, his mother and father, Mamie (Klein) Wadlin and Charles Wadlin, his brother Buster Wadlin and sister Betty Palk, and his half siblings Blair Wadlin, Roy Wadlin, Ernie Wadlin and Verta Justason.
Arrangements are under the care of Fair Haven Funeral Home. Visitation after cremation will be at Fair Haven, 1177 Salisbury Road on Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be Monday, August 6, 2012 at St. Georges Anglican Church on Church St. in Moncton at 2:00 pm with Rev. Chris Van Buskirk presiding.
