Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital at the age of 83 years.
Joseph was born in Detroit, Michigan and was raised in New Waterford, Nova Scotia.
Beloved husband of Mary Margaret (nee Buist) MacNeil for 59 years. Loving father of Joseph, Peggy Adams (Bob) all of Waterloo, Francis (Frank) of Kitchener and the late Terry (1981). Dear grandfather of Chad, Jennifer, Charlene, Michelle, Melinda and great-grandfather of MacKenzie, and Cole. Dear brother of James (Nakie), William (Willie), Carmel, Dorothy and Dianne.
Predeceased by brothers, Bernard, Dennis and Ronald (Ronnie) and sisters, Mary, Thelma, Betty and Donna.
Joseph is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was a veteran of the Second World War having served with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Special thank you to Department of Veteran Affairs and the sixth floor nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital for their excellent care and concern.
Joseph’s family will receive relatives and friends Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Parish prayers will be recited at the funeral Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Prayers will be offered in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 followed by procession to St. Mary’s R.C. Church (56 Duke St. West, Kitchener) for a funeral mass at 11 a.m. Fr. George Nowak officiating.
Interment Woodland Cemetery followed by a reception at Emmanuel Village, 1250 Weber St. East, Kitchener.
As expressions of sympathy donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation of the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
