Marjorie Alayne Couper , 85 of Bear River passed away on July 22nd, 2012, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Born April 5th, 1927 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, Marjorie spent summers in the French Quarter of New Orleans, LA working in her aunt’s bookstore, while she was enrolled in Mississippi State College for Women. She graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree and a minor in Art. In 1949 she travelled to the largest art colony in the United States, Provincetown, Massachusetts. She studied painting at the Cape Cod School of Art, where she eventually met and married fellow artist Charles Alexander Couper. She was an art and 3rd grade elementary school teacher in California & MA for 30 years. She volunteered at the Digby Admiral Museum and taught adult literacy classes. Marjorie loved her flower gardens, travelling and bird watching but, most of all, she loved people. She was a true social being, who embraced life to the fullest. She touched the hearts of so many and will be sorely missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Charles Couper; brother, Chandler Franks; daughters, Alayne Couper & Claudia Couper; granddaughters, Erin Murphy & Katherine Littlefied and great grandsons, Kai & Fionn Murphy. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to all the doctors, nursing staff and palliative care in Digby General Hospital, as well as Home Care support & visiting nurses. The continuous level of compassion, support and caring will never for forgotten. A memorial service for family and close friends to follow.
