JEWERS, Eva Estelle – 96, The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro, formerly of Bible Hill, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at The Mira. Born October 30, 1915, in Londonderry Station, she was a daughter of the late Steele and Pearl (Johnson) Giddens. At the age of 12 years, she became the organist of Station Church, which met in Temperance Hall and soon after was baptized in First Baptist Church, Truro and became a member of the Great Village church. In 1944, she transferred to Truro churches where she was active in Junior Missions Group, Grace Archibald Auxiliary, Mission Band (children’s), Baby Band, visiting committee, midweek pianist and Sunday school secretary. In 1967, she was asked to be organist in another church. She considered it carefully, and decided if God gave her the talent to be a church organist, she should go where and when she was asked. So for 25 years she did so with great pleasure. She played at churches, funerals and weddings. In the spring of 1992, she took very sick with Polymyalgia Rheumatica and had to give up everything. She suffered quietly and did not complain. She loved nature, the clear blue sky, a babbling brook, the roar of the incoming tide, the birds and animals. She was a great gardener and always had a bouquet for a friend or a church. She honoured and respected the churches with their tall steeples pointing to the sky. She is survived by her brother, Keith Giddens; sister, Fay McCallum, both of Truro; several nieces and nephews. Aong with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Jewers. As per Eva’s wishes, she was interred and rests beside her brother, Russell, in the family plot in Folly Village Cemetery, Glenholme. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eva’s memory to Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation or VON are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Eva’s obituary on-line and selecting “Send A Condolence” at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
