It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Dana on Sunday, July 29, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of Dorothy Dicks and the late William Dicks.
After Dana graduated high school, winning numerous scholarships, she completed a bachelor’s degree from Acadia University and subsequently completed a Master’s Degree in Science and Nutrition from McGill University. She later obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from St. Mary’s University and a Certified Management Accounting designation. For the past 12 years, Dana was employed as a regional accounting officer with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, until taking a medical retirement this year.
Dana enjoyed walking, sewing and decorating her home but most of all spending time with her husband and daughter and planning family gatherings. She was a member of the Anglican Church of the Holy Apostle.
She is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Bernard and her six year old daughter Katie. Dana will be sadly missed by her siblings, David (Linda), Dartmouth, Darlene Read (Brian), Halifax, Derek, Brampton, Ont., Dale Denny (Scott Pickard), Ottawa, Ont. She is also survived by many aunts and cousins. Dana was a very special aunt to Shannon (Nathan), Jennifer, Daniel, Chris, Jordan and Brooklynn. She is also survived by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carolyn and Gerald MacGillivray, Sydney Mines and sisters-in-law, Theresa, Sydney Mines and Cathy McNaught (Rob).
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, in Apostles Anglican Church, 6779 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Rev. Mark Marshall officiating. Burial at a later date in North Sydney.
