It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Rachel Denney, 90, a resident of Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, and formerly of Memorial Drive, North Sydney, on Monday, July 30, 2012, at the Manor.
Rachel was born in Sydney Mines, the daughter of the late Effie and Alexander Bonnar.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Rachel was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney.
She is survived by her only son Thomas Denney, her grandson James Rushton and two great-grandchildren, all of Ontario, and many nieces and nephews.
Rachel was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Denney, her sisters, Catherine Finnigan, brothers, Clarence, Stanley and Andrew Bonnar, stepsisters, Evelyn MacMullin, Viola Fifoot and stepbrothers, Joe and George Gardiner.
The family would like to thank Miners Memorial Manor for the care shown to Rachel during the past number of years.
Visitation for Rachel will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Mass to be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations in Rachel’s memory may be made to Miners Memorial Manor.
